Drug Use Unit

Drug Use/Abuse

It occurs when the consumption of alcohol or another substance (drug) of a person leads to health, labor, academic or family problems. The exact cause of drug use is unknown, but the genetic load (close relatives with the disorder), the action of drugs, peer pressure, emotional distress, anxiety, depression and environmental stress can all be factors intervening. An Emotional Assessment and an image such as Brain SPECT (to determine brain damage from drug use), will be essential.

This disorder requires a multidisciplinary treatment, where individual and family psychotherapeutic intervention will be a priority. The use of psychotropic drugs will be necessary when the substances consumed generate physical health problems or when this disorder presents with comorbidities such as depression, anxiety, etc.
